Biogas

Converting waste into new and clean energy

Creating energy from waste. Biogas plants make it possible to create energy from waste with energetic and economic benefits. Energy is produced at the same time as the disposal of farming residues (sewage, manure and leftover feed), food production residues (leftover fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and dairy processing residues, beer brewing wastes, leftover food etc.), municipal organic waste and wastewater from industrial and public water treatment facilities.
This allows the farming industry to make an important contribution to the distribution of energy from renewable sources and the disposal of organic waste.

How is biogas made?
Biogas is produced through the anaerobic fermentation of organic materials in a sealed fermenter, which transforms the organic material through a complex biological process at 38 – 55 °C.
More than half of the gas resulting from this process is methane (CH4); the remainder is carbon dioxide (CO2).
A combined heat and power plant (CHP) with a generator transforms methane gas into power and heat.
In addition to the possibility to reuse and dispose of potential pollutants, biogas reduces the carbon footprint of energy production as it does not add to CO2 emissions.
The production process generates only the amount of CO2 absorbed by plants through photosynthesis.
