Biomass is produced by specifically grown crops and crop residues, as well forestry residues, waste from food processing or timber industries, including:
• wood and by-products;
• plant biomass chips;
• plant trimmings;
• almond- walnut shells;
• vine shoots;
• corn cobs and stalks;
• wheat straw;
• soybean straw
• wet and depleted olive pomace.

The biomass gasification process creates a gas called "SYNGAS". When properly processed, this gas is used to generate electricity by means of internal combustion engines (Otto cycle) coupled to an electric generator.
